Meet a couple of my original creations from a year or two ago. Marbles the Duck and Checkers the Turtle.
I plan on revisiting some of my old works to give them an extra bit of flare that I wasn’t capable of originally, you should expect to see more of these two in the future but I may start altering their designs a bit to experiment.

Hey guys and gals, for any of you that are still interested I have a new personal art blog where I just post up a bunch of different things that I do. I plan on reworking a bunch of old Marbles works so if that interests you feel free to jump over and check it out. I don’t feel as though I will be returning to this blog to update it because logging in and out all the time becomes troublesome.
That’s all, thanks!

I haven't seen Marbles or Checkers in a long time. Hoping everyone is well.

Hey there, things haven’t been the best lately so I’m sort of going on with things at my own pace, I certainly have things planned for Marbles in the future but right now I really just need to take a step back and reassess a bunch of things.

Still, thanks for the message and your support is greatly appreciated :D

I saw a duck…

I saw a duck while I was out walking this morning.

Nothing out of the ordinary except that it was up in a reeeeeally tall tree and was waddling along a thick branch…

I mean sure, any old bird can fly up into a tree but there’s just such an odd and yet satisfying feeling when a duck does it.

Has anyone else witnessed this phenomenon?
I think it’d be cool to get some pictures happening so post a reply :D

Testing out an early tileset mockup…
—Jayce:
And with that we begin!
Not a whole lot else to say at the moment, right now I am training myself to create consistent graphics, the example above is a very clear indication that the leaves are far too busy compared to the rest of the graphics.
Marbles and Checkers have been drawn in a very simplistic style and I need to keep this in mind throughout the entire development process, the biggest mistake I can make early on is making the graphics surrounding the characters too busy as it will make them look like pieces of paper in comparison.
All in all though I think so long as I keep tiled objects big it will work out. The smaller bushes and the leaves contain too many lines and hinder their surrounding objects that don’t have as much detail by comparison.
In either case please feel free to leave feedback however you wish either by registering here at DivinElegy or commenting with your facebook account for added convenience. This game is at a very early stage and is nowhere near playable but both Cameron and I would find additional motivation from knowing that there are a few people out there actually looking forward to it.
Oh, and if you’re not sure what you’re looking at exactly; take a gander at our crazy brainstorming session.

Hey hey!
I’ve decided to set up a separate tumblr for the game dev log, it’s not fair on those of you that are interested in the comic but not in the other aspects.
If you are interested in the game though please show your support by following the marblesandcheckers tumblr page or by signing in to DivinElegy.
Given the fact that it’s in its very early stages I am more than open to ideas of what you would like included, ideas you may have for plaftforming elements, scenarios, situations and so on, but in that regard this game is also a very very long way from being completed.
Thanks for all of your support! Regardless of whether you stay for the game or the comic I look forward to entertaining you all more and more as time passes.

Checkers’ Run Cycle…

I don’t actually know how to draw scenery which explains why my comics were always so bare… I’m slowly learning how to do that though, the next thing is going to be trying to make all of the graphics consistent in terms of colour and shade for each area.
This picture clearly shows that the leaves on the trees clash with the bushes and the grass, but I’ll probably get better and better over time.

Development of a game is currently in consideration at the moment, mostly for a personal project since I used to make indie games about 5-years ago, however since I won’t be doing the programming side of things I’ll be handling all of the graphical work. I can get simple animations out faster than I can a whole comic so I’ll probably be throwing up some walk frames, jump frames and other imagery as things progress.

Here is a basic walk frame for Marbles.

Maybe I should be in a Videogame…
I probably wouldn’t be very good at underwater levels since I float.

Hey folks

Checkers and Marbles have gone south for the winter to free a bit of time out of my busy work schedule. This will hopefully get some of my creativity flowing again because I won’t feel as obligated to get a comic out every week.

Until they return it will probably mean that this page is going to be a bit dormant, so if you want to ask me anything, whether it be about Marbles, my website as a whole or just something plain random please do, I’d like to post something up on the page at least.

I am likely going to be out of the game for at least 2 months so I hope I don’t lose too many of you as followers.

For all of you that have supported me by entering my competitions, buying things from the shop, sending messages, etc. Thanks very much! See you all again soon!
